Ok, one of the frustrating things about lymphedema is the lack of public and professional knowledge. As I strive to learn and understand the complexities of this condition the more frustrated I become. It's bad enough that lymphedema is categorized as a "fat Disease" (if you don't believe me, Google fat diseases), that alone gives a negative picture of those afflicted and already feeling bad but it also puts a stigma on us and the condition as well. Recently I read an article that indicated, being overweight/obese causes lymphedema. Well, that is so easy for people to say, because the intent is not to educate but to demean and condemn those with weight issues. The problem is that there is no understanding of lymphedema. I wonder if they (the reporters) even researched lymphedema or better still did anyone bother to interview a person living with lymphedema. People can be so insensitive? How did we get to this point, where we have no consideration for peoples feelings and pains? We were not created to be this way. We were created to be loving individuals, we were created to care and help each other. With that said, I still have hope and believe in mankind. It is situations such as this that make me even more determined to help everyone that I can. To be the light I was created to be. Yes, there are times when my light will appear to be dim, but be assured that the flicker will not go out.
