I was encouraged by the visit to the orthopedic specialist (at a local hospital). However it was the events following the visit that most impacted me. While waiting for the valet to return my car I watched as person after person exited Handicap assessable vans, buses and vehicles. People who could not walk at all (but had legs), people using walkers, canes and crutches. As one woman stumbled out of a vehicle, obviously very sick, I found myself offering her my assistance. Now what stands out most about this is I myself was using a cane. As I realized this I stopped, and laughed because here I was barely able to stand and I'm offering my help to someone else. How much help could I be...a lot because as this woman was almost falling she instinctively reached out her hand and my arm was there for her, she looked relieved and offered a embarrassed smile, I just smiled and walked her to a seat not far from the entrance. Again I smiled to myself and me and my cane continued to wait for my vehicle.
We have no idea what other people are going through. Sometimes we must step outside of ourselves and see the world around us to appreciate where we are. It seems that whenever I have a pity party for myself, or I'm just feeling down, it never fails that something happens to snap me out of my "zone" and back into the reality of "it could be worst" There are things to do, places to go and people to help...gotta keep this train movin
Peace
